Mr. Saulius Skvernelis

 

 

 

  • Born on July 23, 1970.
  • After graduating a High School in Marijampolė in 1988, Mr. Skvernelis completed engineering studies at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University in 1994. He also obtained the Master of Laws from Mykolas Romeris University in 2005.
  • Mr. Skvernelis started his career as Junior Lecturer in the Lithuanian Police Academy in 1994. He continued his duties at the Lithuanian law enforcement system. Gradually rising through the ranks, he became the Police Commissioner General of the Lithuanian police and served in this position from 2011 to 2014.
  • In November 2014, Mr. Skvernelis was appointed as the Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania and served in this capacity until 2016.
  • During 2015 and 2016, Mr. Skvernelis became one of the most popular politicians in Lithuania. Ahead of the parliamentary elections, he resigned in March 2016 to lead the electoral list of the Farmers and Greens Union, which received an overwhelming majority of votes and got 54 of 141 seats in the Parliament (Seimas) of Lithuania. ­­­­­­
  • In December 2016, he assumed duties of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania.
  • Mr. Skvernelis has received numerous awards for his professional duties.
  • He speaks English, Polish and Russian. He is married with wife Silvija and has two children, daughter Eglė (born in 2009) and son Tadas (2016).
